Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Police then found many other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.

City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for details.

A senior political figure stated the attack left him speechless and required to be solved quickly.

"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
