A Pair of Arrests Following Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Incident

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
This incident resulted in the temporary closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking area.

An additional two individuals are now in custody in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport where 21 people sustained injuries by a substance believed to be pepper spray, as stated by police.

A man, 24, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area for suspected theft and assault and a woman, 23 was detained for suspected conspiring to commit a robbery. Both individuals remain in custody, the force said.

These detentions follow a probe into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Prior to the attack, two women had stolen from them their luggage upon exiting a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was among the injured during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and were later discharged.

Police arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of theft and assault close to the scene. He was subsequently released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Authorities were called at approximately 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding several individuals hurt by an irritating chemical thought to be an irritant spray.

The attack - an event that police said was isolated and not being treated as terrorism - resulted in train delays and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 car park briefly.
